‘Youth in Development (Jeugd in Ontwikkeling)’ has published an inaugural lecture by Helma Koomen: ‘Professionele pedagogische en hulpverleningsrelaties vragen meer dan een warm hart’ (Professional pedagogical and counseling relationships require more than a warm heart). In this adaptation of Helma Koomen’s inaugural lecture upon accepting the Kohnstammleerstoel at the UvA in June 2022, she discusses the attachment approach to the student-teacher relationship. Although Koomen points out the availability of theory-based, effective interventions, it is also clear that there is work to be done to implement them effectively
Professionals in the field often lack access to academic literature; with help from the VNOP, the newly launched ‘Youth in Development’ is changing this. Articles in this journal are freely accessible and contain relevant academic research highlighting development, parenting and interventions from different perspectives and contexts.
