We are looking for

Each year, the Behavioural Science Institute (BSI) Graduate School offers seven Master’s students the opportunity to become PhD candidates. If you are interested in becoming a behavioural scientist and want to work at an institute where multiple disciplines of behavioural science are studied under one roof, we invite you to apply for our 2021 PhD positions.

We ask

You must hold a Master’s degree (e.g. a taught or research Master’s degree in Behavioural Science, Psychology, Educational Science or Communication Science) and have excellent research, methodological and statistical skills.

We are

Behavioural Science Institute is a multidisciplinary behavioural research institute. Our researchers collaborate across the boundaries of psychology, educational science, and communication science. BSI has seven research programmes covering three major research themes: 1) development and learning, 2) psychopathology, health and well-being, and 3) social processes and communication. The Institute conducts fundamental as well as applied/translational research.

Our seven programmes are:

  • BCW – Behaviour Change and Well-Being
  • CM – Communication and Media
  • DP – Developmental Psychopathology
  • EPT – Experimental Psychopathology and Treatment
  • LP – Learning and Plasticity
  • SD – Social Development
  • WHP – Work Health and Performance

BSI has state-of-the-art research facilities for observational studies, experiments, eye-tracking studies, EEG and other physiological measures, and behavioural measurements in real and 3D virtual environments. The neuroimaging facilities of the Donders Centre for Cognitive Neuroimaging (fMRI, MEG and TMS) are available for research on the neural bases of behaviour.

We offer

  • Employment: 0,8 (5 year contract) -1,0 FTE (4 year contract).
  • The gross starting salary amounts to €2,395 per month based on a 38-hour working week, and will increase to €3,061 from the fourth year onwards (salary scale P).
  • In addition to the salary: an 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% end-of-year bonus.
  • Duration of the contract: you will be appointed for an initial period of 18 months, after which your performance will be evaluated. If the evaluation is positive, the contract will be extended by 2.5 years (4 year contract) or 3.5 years (5 year contract).
  • Your education task may be up to 10% of your appointment.
  • The intended start date is 1 September 2021.
